Ex-Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe has been arrested and produced in front of Colombo Majestrate court today over accusaton of misusing government funds. Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe was the 8th President of Sri Lanka and most notably who resuced the country from deep economical downfall. He is honoured by many global experts as there is no any other example of a recovering from a deep economical downfall as Sri Lanka’s comeback in a short period of time.
However, he was accused of using public funds to participate on his visit to United Kingdom for a graduation ceremony of his wife Maithree Wickramasinghe. That tour was scheduled while the President was returning to Colombo from Havana, Cuba from a state visit. Accoding to the reports from Colombo, around 16 million+ Sri Lanka rupees were spent on that part of the tour.
