15 individuals have been arrest by CID in Eastern University – Faculty of Technology last night

15 individuals who are studying at the Faculty of Technology, Eastern University, Sri Lanka, have been arrested by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department of Sri Lanka) over a ragging incident that took place last night (Sep 04) within the university premises. EUSL, or Eastern University Sri Lanka’s Faculty of Technology, is known for serious ragging incidents, including sexual harassment and physical assaults. This university is located in a very rural area, far from civilisation, which makes everything difficult, including ensuring the safety of students. It ranks at the bottom of Sri Lanka’s universities and is not found even among the best 2,500 universities in the world.

Lack of food and water, poor lodging facilities, and inadequate learning resources are major issues at the university, along with a shortage of qualified staff. It is considered the worst investment of the country’s tax money, yet it continues to operate as there is no way to shut it down due to pressure from student unions. The country’s Criminal Investigation Department should be appreciated for their excellent operation in reaching such a remote location and arresting those suspects.

We are happy to say that this is the first ever coverage given to “Sri Lanka Eastern University” by an international news agency and even local news channels are rarely cover these kind of rural universities in Sri Lanka.
